Lambing Experience Day 2025

Session time: 10:30 to 16:30

Come and join us for a day’s hard work! (Limited to one booking per day for 2 people, aged over 16 only)
Experience life in the lambing sheds with our flock of pure Swaledale sheep at Hazel Brow Farm. An amazing opportunity to see lots of new life at this special time of year.
The day will be led by the sheep and what is happening in the lambing barns:- including feeding and caring for the pregnant ewes, recognising labour and lending a hand if assistance is needed. The ‘post natal’ department includes, tagging, marking,turning out and possibly helping with ‘mothering on’ as well as other daily tasks.
The day can be as “hands on” as you want and is suitable for beginners with plenty of pet lambs to attend to!

This experience day is scheduled in peak lambing time, however lambing is unpredictable, so unfortunately we cannot guarantee lambs will be born while you are here.

Please bring a packed lunch, hot and cold drinks provided.

Not suitable for anyone who may be pregnant.

We recommend wearing boots or wellies and dressing in layers and clothes that you don’t mind getting mucky!!.
After the day, if you’ve any energy left, why not explore our private nature trail through the lambing fields and by the river Swale exploring the unique Yorkshire dales countryside.

Please let us know if you have any allergies or medical conditions that might put you at risk. Straw and bedding materials may be dusty, allergy or hay fever sufferers may react to the silage. Please be aware that although we provide hand washing facilities, it is your responsibility to ensure you do not ingest dangerous substances such as manure from fences or through contamination of footware. You will be accompanied by a member of our family farm team at all times other than lunch time or tea/coffee breaks.This activity is not suitable for anyone who is, or may be likely to be pregnant.
