Livestock & Landscape Youth Group

Livestock & Landscape – Summer Youth Club

Our 2026 Livestock & Landscape programme has now finished – but we hope to be back!

This summer we launched our very first Livestock & Landscape youth group for young people aged 11–16, and we were blown away by the support and enthusiasm we received from young people and their families.

Livestock & Landscape was created to help bridge the gap between young people and the rural sector, particularly for those who may have an interest in farming, conservation, animals or the countryside but don’t necessarily come from a farming background or know where to begin.

Across six relaxed, hands-on sessions, our young people experienced lots of different aspects of rural life. We covered sheep farming and livestock handling, dry stone walling, traditional hay meadows, farming with nature and environmental schemes, land management, cattle and the livestock trade, farm diversification and more. We visited neighbouring farms, explored the Dales landscape and even spent a morning at Leyburn Auction Mart learning how livestock markets and the wider cattle industry work.

Most importantly, the group gave young people the chance to get stuck in, ask questions, meet farmers and other people working within the rural sector, develop practical skills and discover some of the many different opportunities available to them.

You don’t have to inherit a farm to have a future in farming. We want young people from all backgrounds and abilities to feel that agriculture and the wider rural sector are open to them.

Thanks to the amazing response to our first programme, we hope to bring Livestock & Landscape back in summer 2027, alongside developing more opportunities throughout the year for young people interested in farming, conservation, land management and rural careers.

If you have a young person who would be interested in future sessions, we’d love to hear from you. Registering your interest also helps us demonstrate the need for programmes like this when applying for future funding.
